The Journey North Begins!

After a solid stretch of sunshine, snorkeling, and sweat in the Keys, it was finally time to say goodbye to Marathon and start the long migration north to Rhode Island. This leg—from Marathon to West Palm Beach—had a little of everything: coral reefs, boat grime, city stops, and even a reunion with SV Free Spirit.
We kicked things off with a snorkel at John Pennekamp Coral Reef, where the water was clear, the fish were friendly, and the dinghy batteries died unexpectedly. From there, it was time to get to work—scrubbing the bottom of the boat (aka barnacle CrossFit), followed by some strategic stops: a picking up a new air conditioner in Miami and a new water maker in Fort Lauderdale, so we can keep showering without making deals with marinas.
The cherry on top? Meeting back up with our friends on SV Free Spirit in West Palm—the kind of reunion that reminds you why the cruising life is worth all the sweaty engine contortions.
This episode marks the start of our east coast run, and up next: we make our way from West Palm to St. Augustine, where I break out the drone for the first time and—miraculously—don’t crash it. Instead, I manage to capture one of the most serene shots yet: Bliss gliding through open water under full spinnaker, like a sea unicorn on a mission.
If you like sailing, sea life, and salty repairs, you’ll want to stick around!
